Your Clear Aligner Options: Invisalign and SureSmile
Both Invisalign and SureSmile are orthodontic systems that use clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth rather than brackets and wires. They can produce similar results, but SureSmile is typically considered a more cost-effective option.
A dental professional at our practice can recommend an ideal solution that accounts for your smile goals, dental health, budget, and preferable treatment timeline.

Long-Term Benefits of Clear Aligners
Improved Oral Health
Misalignment can make it much harder to brush and floss your teeth effectively. This drawback can put you at higher risk for developing oral health issues such as tooth decay or gum disease. Wearing clear aligners can make your dental routine as effective as possible.
Boosted Confidence
Invisalign treatment and SureSmile treatment are designed to make smile gaps, crooked teeth, and other misalignment issues impacting your self-confidence a thing of the past. Moreover, since the aligners are designed to be nearly imperceptible, you don’t have to worry about your treatment process being noticeable at school, among your coworkers, or in public settings at large.

View on GoogleThe Cost of Not Straightening Your Teeth Invest In Your Oral Health To Save Money in the Long Run
Our Marietta dental office understands Invisalign and SureSmile are an investment. However, not seeking treatment can be more costly in the future. When left untreated, misaligned teeth can lead to:
Tooth Decay
Our teeth can be difficult to clean when they are not properly aligned. Floss may not fit between each crevice and brushing may miss crucial areas, allowing food particles to form deposits and contribute to the buildup of bacteria. Left untreated, this can lead to cavities, severe tooth decay, and even tooth loss.
Gum Disease
If you can't brush or floss properly, it can also lead to gum disease. Gum disease can cause multiple oral health issues that span from bad breath and pain to bleeding gums and tooth loss.
TMD
Even slightly crooked teeth can cause a misaligned bite and lead to jaw pain and temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). TMD can cause tremendous pain in the jaw, face, and neck, and can cause the sufferer to experience symptoms like jaw stiffness, clicking or popping, and difficulty chewing.
While it may seem like a high price upfront, SureSmile and Invisalign treatment can prevent costly oral health issues caused by misaligned teeth.

While every Invisalign or SureSmile patient receives a unique orthodontic plan, these are the overarching steps involved:
We use advanced technology for a comfortable, seamless experience from start to finish.
A Closer Look at the Process How Clear Aligners Gradually Straighten Your Teeth
Unlike braces that use metal brackets and wires that must be manually adjusted, Invisalign and SureSmile use a series of plastic aligners that get gradually tighter to shift your teeth into the proper position. People with braces need to return to the dentist each time they need their brackets tightened. Those with clear aligners can switch to their next set in the comfort of their home.

View on GoogleCaring for Your Aligners The Do's and Don'ts of Invisalign and SureSmile
Ensuring your teeth and aligners are kept clean during treatment is one of the most important aspects of this orthodontic option. Your aligners sit on your teeth and gums for between 20 and 22 hours each day so if the trays or your teeth are not properly cleaned, leftover food will also be sitting on your teeth and gums for most of the day and night, causing bacteria to grow. Luckily, with clear aligners, your oral health routine is easier than ever.
Brush Your Teeth After Eating
You should always brush your teeth before placing your clear aligners back in as you would on a normal day, however, it is also important to clean your teeth after eating or drinking sugary or acidic beverages. Ensuring your teeth are clean will help prevent any residue from sitting on your teeth and causing plaque and bacteria buildup.
Leave Your Aligners in While Eating
The only thing you should consume while wearing your aligners is water. Even gum and hard candy can damage or stain your aligners. One of the major benefits of clear aligners over braces is that they are removable. You can easily remove them to enjoy a snack or beverage, then put them back in after brushing your teeth.
Clean Your Aligners
Your aligners should be cleaned daily by removing them, scrubbing them with gentle soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush, and rinsing them with lukewarm water. You can also place them in a clear aligner cleaning solution during long meals, like dinner, to remove any food particles or residue. Cleaning your aligners does not take the place of your oral hygiene routine; both should be completed daily.
Use Abrasive Cleaners
Do not use a medium or hard-bristled toothbrush or toothpaste when scrubbing your aligners. The bristles can scratch the surface and the toothpaste can cause the plastic to look cloudy, making them noticeable during use. You should also never use very hot water while cleaning as this can warp the aligners and potentially affect your treatment timeline.
Keep Your Aligners Safe
Place your aligners in the same place–preferably their container–each time you remove them. Without proper care, clear aligners are frequently lost, damaged, or stolen by pets. Sometimes, patients can move on to their next pair of aligners if their current pair has been lost or damaged, however, other times a patient will have to wait for new aligners to be fabricated, delaying their treatment.
Skip Check-Ups With Your Dentist
Attend all scheduled appointments. And contact our Marietta office immediately if your aligners have been damaged or lost. We can assess your teeth to determine if you can move on to the next set or if you need a new pair. Moving to your next pair without consulting your dentist can affect your treatment. By maintaining your scheduled check-ups, we can always ensure your timeline is right on track.
Clear Aligner FAQs Questions? We Have Answers!
Below are answers to some of our frequently asked questions.
I'm traveling. Should I take my next pair of aligners with me?
This depends on where your trip falls. If you are scheduled to advance to your next set while you're away, it is crucial to bring them so you don't disrupt your treatment timeline. However, if you'll be back before you're scheduled to start using your next pair, leave them at home to reduce the risk of them being lost or damaged.
Can I snack during treatment?
Yes, but remember to remove your trays, limit the amount, and clean your teeth before putting your aligners back in. For optimal results, your aligners should be worn between 20 and 22 hours per day, so if you snack frequently, this could extend that time and delay your results.
Can I drink coffee while wearing my aligners?
It is ok to drink coffee during your treatment if you remove your aligners and thoroughly clean your teeth before placing them back in. However, just like frequent snacking, drinking coffee throughout your day should be avoided as you might not be able to wear your aligners for the full 20-22 hours.
