Crowns and bridges have been basically a procedure that has been done for many, many years in dentistry. The very nice thing about what we've done in terms of technology is we've allowed that procedure to be much easier from the standpoint of start to finish, getting the restoration completed. Basically, what a crown is is that we do ... Many patients understand what fillings are so you're just sort of filling inside of a tooth. But a crown actually covers the top of the tooth. What a crown is meant to do is protect the tooth from bite forces and actually it shields the tooth from decay. But it basically helps protect the tooth for many, many years. It looks like a tooth, flosses like a tooth, chews like a tooth. For many patients, they can maintain these restorations for 20, 30 years if they're maintained appropriately. I think it's a nice benefit that we can provide a patient who's maybe had a lot of restorations in one area of their mouth.
Sometimes you can sort of start that crown process for that patient and help protect their teeth. Many times, we're actually doing crowns in an emergency approach. Obviously we'd much rather perform a crown procedure in a preventative approach, however, many patients, they'll have a problem when we need to go ahead and protect the tooth. Fortunately, more often times than now, we can do that and not have to commit to doing things like root canals of whatever.
In the event a patient does lose a tooth, basically we get into the conversation of an implant versus a bridge. With a bridge, it's almost like getting three or four or five crowns, except all those crowns are connected together and essentially one of those, or two of those, may be simple replacements for that natural tooth. Basically, it's connected to the adjacent teeth, so flossing is actually impossible between those. We have special types of brushes and special types of floss that clean under bridges. It's certainly a procedure that helps patients with missing teeth and sometimes can be the better option versus say an implant, if you really can look at all the considerations.

Restoring Your Teeth With Beautiful Crowns
Our dental crowns are skillfully designed to give you the strongest, most realistic appearance possible. Crowns are used to repair teeth that have been damaged due to injury, infection, abnormal wear, or disease. Here’s how we do it:
- We use digital X-rays to examine your smile, then we’ll take 3-D digital impressions to create your custom crown in a matter of 45 minutes with our CEREC milling machine.
- While your crown is being crafted, your tooth is cleaned and cleared of all disease and decay.
- Once the crown is placed, it becomes the new protective surface of your tooth.
Our office offers both porcelain e.max crowns and Lava zirconia crowns. Both options are long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing.
Creating Your Full, Naturally Functioning Smile With Dental Bridges
Fixed dental bridges are made up of three or more of our beautifully crafted dental crowns that work together to fill a gap in your smile. The dental crowns placed on your remaining teeth are fused to the replacement tooth in order to bridge the gap left by the missing tooth.
Implant-supported bridges work similarly, except that they are supported by dental implants instead of your natural teeth. Implant-supported dental bridges are often a better option for those wishing to preserve their jawbone structure, as areas of bone left empty are prone to deterioration over time.
Correcting Damaged Teeth With Inlays & Onlays
Inlays and onlays are restorations we may use to repair damage that is too extensive for fillings to handle, but not quite bad enough for dental crowns. Inlays are bonded to the biting surface of your tooth, while onlays cover damage on the sides and cusps of your tooth as well.
