You shouldn’t have to run all over town depending on the type of dental care that you need.
We believe our patients and their families deserve comprehensive dental care in one location.
This includes three major areas:
- Preventive care to avoid gum disease, tooth decay, and more serious problems.
- Cosmetic care to improve the appearance of your smile.
- Restorative care to repair and renew the form and function of your teeth.
Today, we will discuss some of the restorative services that we provide at Atlanta West Dentistry in Marietta, GA.
Fillings To Full-Mouth Reconstruction
We have seen restorative dentistry do more than revive the appearance of our patients’ teeth. In many cases, it has restored their confidence as well.
Given that more than 90 percent of Americans will have at least one cavity in their lives and more than 35 million Americans are edentulous (missing at least one complete row of teeth), you are likely to need some restorative care if you haven’t received some already.
To be clear, we hope you never do, but we are ready if you should.
Here are some examples of the restorative services that have helped many of our patients:
★ Dental fillings — We noted earlier that 9 in 10 people will have at least one cavity in their lifetime. Our solution to this problem is composite fillings, sometimes known as tooth-colored fillings.
After removing the decay from your tooth, we will apply the composite resin. The resin will fill the space that was eaten away from your tooth, and it will provide protection against additional decay.
Since the filling material matches the color of your teeth, other people won’t know which tooth had the cavity.
★ Dental Crowns — Accidents happen, and some of those accidents damage people’s teeth. A fall, a trauma to the mouth, or a bite into something hard could cause your tooth to chip or break.
When this happens, a dental crown can be an excellent fix. We can repair your tooth in a two-step process. First, we reshape the damaged tooth to form an abutment. Next, we bond a dental crown to your tooth.
Our dental crowns are made of porcelain and zirconia. Both materials are durable, solid, and natural-looking. Once your dental crowns are bonded in place, your smile will look complete once again.
★ Missing Teeth — Lost teeth can lead to feelings of shame and embarrassment, but they can lead to additional problems, too.
When you lose a tooth, you no longer have a root in that part of your jawbone. The root plays an important role in maintaining the health of the jaw.
As you bite and chew, the root pushes into the jaw. That is a signal to the bone to make new tissue. Without new tissue to replace older tissue, you will lose bone density.
Over time, this can lead to more tooth loss, which exaggerates the problem.
You can replace missing teeth with dental implants (which replace the missing roots of your teeth) along with a dental crown or dental bridge (depending on whether you need to replace one or more teeth).
★ Full-Mouth Reconstruction — This is a service that we hope you will never need, but we have the training and the tools to complete if necessary.
For the sake of this discussion, we will assume you have lost every tooth in your mouth, or the teeth that remain need to be extracted. In either of those scenarios, you would need to replace every tooth in your mouth.
One option would be to get dentures, and for some people that may be enough. Dentures do look like teeth when they stay in place, and they do allow you to eat more foods than you could without any teeth.
However, you could rebuild your smile and restore your ability to eat the foods that you love with implant-supported dentures.
