“Take a deep breath and relax.”
That can be easier said than done when you have dental anxiety. Yet, that’s can be exactly what you will learn to do when you come to Atlanta West Dentistry.
Our team of dental professionals has been helping fearful patients in and around Marietta, GA for decades. You may not believe, but you can learn to manage your anxieties about dental care. And if you can manage them, you can overcome them, too.
Now, this probably won’t happen overnight. It probably won’t happen in a single dental visit. But each visit to our office can get a little easier, so that, in time, you might even look forward to seeing us. (Really, we mean it!)
Big Benefits Of Sedation
For patients who haven’t sat in a dental chair in years, it can seem daunting to make an appointment. You may have dental anxiety for any number of reasons or even a combination of reasons. The good news is that sedation can address many of the most common concerns that we have heard from our patients.
Sedation blocks pain. Many people are fearful that dental care will hurt. It doesn’t have to, and sedation is just one of the reasons why. Our sedation options have an analgesic effect, so you don’t need to worry that your treatment could hurt.
Sedation can stop gagging. But helping you relax, you are less likely to gag.
Sedation can keep you calm. Many people worry about how they might react (because of their anxiety) during a dental appointment. When you are sedated, you are calmer and much less likely to feel troubled by certain tools or sounds.
Sedation can help you forget. When you are sedated, you may not remember anything about your dental appointment. According to many patients, this is precisely why they prefer this kind of dentistry.
Choosing The Right Option For You
The type of sedation you need can depend on your level of anxiety and on the specific treatment are you receiving. Bearing that in mind, we offer three levels of sedation at our office:
- IV Sedation — This is the strongest form of dental sedation that we provide. This takes effect quickly. It’s an excellent option for anyone undergoing complex procedures.
- Oral Sedation — This form of sedation is good for patient with high anxiety. It is a dose of medication taken prior to an appointment. This allows time for it to take effects, so you are feeling relaxed by the time you are ready to sit in the dental chair.
- Inhaled Sedation (Laughing Gas) — This is a mild form of sedation, but it takes effect and wears off quickly. This is good for kids and adults who may be a bit fearful about cleanings or other procedures.
