Choose Quality Oral Care For Your Kids

Posted on February 6th, 2020

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Our team at Atlanta West Dentistry wants you and your kids to have the healthiest smiles possible.

Today, we want to discuss some of the services we offer as well as some tips for developing good oral care habits at home. To take advantage of our family dentistry, call (770) 941-6979 today to make your next appointment with us.

Start Healthy Habits Early

Before your children make their first dental visit, you can and should start caring for their oral health at home. Before any teeth erupt, you can wipe their gums with a soft, clean cloth after feedings. Once that first tooth emerges, using a child-sized toothbrush and small bit of toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice) to gently brush. When your child has two teeth next to each other, you can begin gently flossing as well.

As your kids get older and become more independent, they can brush their own teeth with a pea-sized squeeze of toothpaste. (Coincidentally, this is enough for adults as well.). Show them how to brush their teeth on all sides twice daily. This should take about two minutes. There are free apps for smartphones and tablets to encourage this habit.

When To Visit Us

We welcome and encourage you to bring your children to our Marietta, GA office around their 3rd birthday. Please let us know when you make your little one’s first appointment. This is an important milestone and we want to make it a special occasion.

We want your children to get to know us at an early age, so they can see that we are here to help. This can go a long way toward preventing and reducing dental anxiety as they get older. As your children’s oral health needs change, we have services for their different stages of development.

When you come in for professional cleanings and exams, ask about our other preventives services. Fluoride treatments can strengthen teeth, while dental sealants offer an added layer of protection against cavity-causing bacteria.

As your kids lose their baby teeth and their adult teeth erupt, you may want to talk to us about orthodontic options. Invisalign aligners can be an effective solution for many teenagers.

Most people’s wisdom teeth erupt when they are in their late teens or early 20s. Unfortunately, these teeth can cause a number of problems, which is why wisdom teeth removal is so common. This is another service we can perform right here in our office for you or someone you love.
